A common theme in Christopher's work is the appearance of "The Stanleys," a group of bald men in suits. She says they represent the "everyman" of society. Here Christopher shows "The Stanleys" "desperately trying to get life right, to do something right, but they are not convinced that they know what right is so they are always a little hesitant to act."
